  • The Compton Heights Concert Band features an enjoyable Sousa-style program of marches, Broadway show tunes, symphonic transcriptions, contemporary band selections, and internationally acclaimed guest artists. Musicians are expected to attend 80% of the rehearsals and concerts and to help once per month at the band's charity fundraiser. Most noted for its six-week summer concert series Sunday Serenades and Musical Mondays in Francis Park and Tower Grove Park, the summer series begins July 1st and July 2nd and ends August 5th and August 6th. The band also performs an annual December Pops concert and community events such Memorial Day in Tower Grove Park.

Under the direction of professional Conductor, Edward Dolbashian, the Compton Heights Concert Band is active year round. The Band is funded by corporate and public grants, sponsorships, the Bandwagon citizen support group and the band's weekly charity bingo held at Bandwagon Hall, 2151 Lemay Ferry Road, St. Louis, Missouri, 63125. Musicians also volunteer at the Band's charity benefit bingo for community service.

Preparation for an audition should include presenting two of your best pieces that demonstrate intonation, rhythmic ability, musicality, and technique. You may be asked to play two different scales and to sightread a piece. The prepared selections do not have to be very long or difficult. Play something that is prepared well.

Membership includes high school age through senior citizens from all walks of life, all dedicated to presenting programs for the public. High School students interested in auditioning for our college scholarship program, see 12th annual Auditions for College Scholarships

Interested musicians should call (314) 776-2227 or email chband@sbcglobal.net and leave a message with a daytime and home phone number.
